There are good reasons that the blog, Six Sisters Stuff, continues to gain readers and this cookbook will do the same. First, the 100 or so recipes are truly time savers; every dish includes minutes spent prepping and cooking (they save hours for slow cooker usage). Second, the sisters believe in shortcuts, whether in terms of one pan or pot (reducing washing), quantity freezing, five or fewer ingredients, and prepared foodstuffs (frozen meatballs, precooked bacon, packaged ham, etc.). Plus the Cooking Hacks section enumerates some quite clever tips and techniques, such as enveloping a container of ice cream in a large zip-top bag to help it stay soft and frozen. Even better, none of the recommendations harms the tastiness of the original dish. For example, the Best Pork Chop recipe features a sauce made of soy, chili, honey, vegetable oil, curry powder, and green onions. Other bound-to-please classic dishes include Dad's Goulash, a baked mac and cheese, four-cheese lasagna, and taco salad casserole. Familiarity breeds comfort.--Jacobs, Barbara Copyright 2016 Booklist

In this debut, six sisters who blog at SixSistersStuff.com (actual siblings Camille, Kristin, Elyse, Stephanie, Lauren, and Kendra) share quick and easy dinner recipes for busy families. Featured meals made in 30 minutes or less include such dishes as parmesan pork chops and turkey cranberry wraps. Other highlighted fare, including pizza quesadillas and meatball subs, are made with no more than five ingredients. For readers who have to rely on what's in the cupboard for "pantry favorites," there's Dad's Goulash and French dip crescents, assuming you have meat in the fridge. Also presented are slow cooker meals (sirloin beef tips and gravy, Hawaiian hula chicken) and freezer meals (four-cheese lasagna, baked taquitos). The reliable casserole is also represented with chicken and stuffing bake and the John Wayne casserole, among others. Easy baked salmon and stuffed pepper soup are listed as "one pan, one pot meals." Sections such as "Cooking Hacks" and "Kitchen Shortcuts & Timesavers" offer preparation tips. Color photos entice throughout. Verdict While these recipes are fairly easy to execute, planning to have the necessary ingredients in the pantry is paramount. Overall, a handy recipe guide that offers a cornucopia of ideas for those with a hungry tribe to feed.-Barbara Kundanis, Longmont P.L., CO © Copyright 2016.
